WHO declares Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a Pandemic What you need to know & precautionary measures

On March 11th 2020, the World Health Organization announced that the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) is officially a Pandemic. The virus has now swept into 114 countries and claimed the lives of more than 4000 people across the globe.

While this announcement has rung the alarm bell, communities must ensure we don’t succumb to panic. Governments globally are working to take urgent and aggressive action to curtail the spread of the virus. As we all wait for a medical breakthrough in the form of a cure or a vaccine, we all can be employing some basic measures and guidelines to do our bit to keep ourselves and our families safe.

The National Health Organization, a grassroots foundation that works tirelessly to ensure that our communities are healthy and cared for wants to make sure that there is enough awareness about precautionary measures that will limit the circulation of this virus.

Please read the below recommendations carefully and share with others around you:-

  • Get a flu vaccine.
  • If you are sick with flu, stay home and receive immediate medical care.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze.
  • Wear a face mask when in public places as these can offer a certain level of protection too.
  • Seek early medical help if you have a fever, cough and difficulty breathing, and share your travel history with healthcare providers.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth often.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.

Please consider hanging the CDC recommendations on COVID-19 prevention at your workplace, place of worship or homes/schools as guidelines.

The National Sikh Organization is committed to working towards the well-being of our community during these difficult times. We hope that the above information and recommendations with help to keep our locals healthy. Please contact us at [email protected] should you need any additional information, have queries or if you think there is anything we can do to be of assistance.
